About AID4SME Open Calls
The AID4SME project aims to provide SMEs and Start-ups a Community of Practice for developing combined AI and data solutions for large-scale industrial resource challenges and bringing them to the market.
In line with the call text, the project will organise two competitive calls to select and contract SMEs and Start-ups and their solutions to address AI and data challenges. Those solutions will solve large resource optimisation challenges of industries that have a high impact on the Green Deal objectives.
The goal is to achieve a widespread deployment of the solutions developed by the SMEs and Start-ups, to increase the industry competitiveness, and environmental and resources sustainability.
About the EoI for external evaluators
The selection process of the external experts will be made through an open and competitive process to ensure independence and transparency in evaluating the applications of the AID4SME Open Call #2.
Selected evaluators will be invited to join the AID4SME Pool of External Evaluators.
Expert fee
Evaluators will be reimbursed for their time and effort based on the number of applications evaluated with up to € 450.00/day.
Note that evaluators are expected to assess a minimum of 8/10 proposals, representing a day of work for a maximum of three days. These figures are approximations; the actual number of proposals assigned for evaluation will be proportionate to the total applications received for the open call.
What is expected from potential evaluators
The AID4SME Open Call #2 remote evaluation and selection process involves:
- Reading and analysing eligible proposal(s)
- Participating in the evaluators’ briefing call
- Participating in consensus meeting(s) and hearing(s) (if any)
- Drafting and submitting the evaluation report(s) for the evaluated proposal(s)
We are looking for experienced experts in various fields of expertise, such as:
- Mechanic or Mechatronic engineering (structural dynamics, process, production, automation, battery dismantling for recycling, control, robotics)
- Electrical engineering (optimisation, energy management, electrical grids)
- Digital Twins, AI and data technologies (modelling, data acquisition and signal processing – including image processing, ML) for product/process mechatronics, automation and quality assurance
Applicants with 10+ years of experience in the specific field/subject area of claimed expertise will be given preference. Holding a PhD in (mechanical/electrical/computer science) engineering is a plus.

No guarantee: This expression of interest to participate in the AID4SME Open Call evaluation as an external expert is NOT binding and does NOT constitute any commitment to the AID4SME project.
Selection and checks: The selection of experts to support AID4SME in the evaluation of the Open Call will be taken at a later stage, since it depends on the number of received proposals, their origin, the domain that they target as well as the origin of the potential evaluators, their affiliations, their expertise and the balance between various criteria (e.g. gender, background, affiliation type, age, expertise etc.). Furthermore, AID4SME may be required to change the experts that support in the evaluations of proposals. All experts contracted to support the evaluations will be subject to an administrative check – provision of personal information may apply.
Use of AI: AI tools may only be used for secondary purposes under the full responsibility of the expert, and will be required to document their usage. Uploading applications (proposals) to any AI tool is strictly forbidden as it violates data privacy, intellectual property, and security guarantees. The expert will be solely liable for any resulting data breach.
